Flutterby Theatre

Flutterby at The Tobacco Factory this Sunday (29th June)

Flutterby are really excited to announce that we will be performing our story, Ebb and Flo at Bristol’s Tobacco Factory Theatres’ Prototype event this Sunday (29th June).

It’s an excellent opportunity for us, as Prototype allows budding theatre companies like ourselves to put on ‘works in progress’ to a public and critical audience. We can’t wait to hear what some industry professionals think about Ebb and Flo!

Rory and the Sun Thief

We are currently creating our new show, Rory and the Sun Thief,  we thought we’d share a little taster with you…

There was once a land that had long been filled with nothingness, like the fading page of an old story. Everyone had forgotten to remember this place. Well, almost everyone…

Under a sunless sky lived a child who was alone in this place. She’d been alone for so long she’d almost forgotten where the loneliness began. A seed of sadness had planted itself in the child a long time ago, and she had forgotten how to smile. Her heart ached with an empty loneliness.

One day she happens on something, the most beautiful thing she had ever seen … as the winds of change blow in, join Rory as she journeys to find her happiness, and put the sun back in the sky.

We’ll be perfoming this show at Off the Tracks Summer 2012 and Woodfest 2012 click on these links to buy your tickets to these amazing festivals, we hope to see you there!

Rory and the Sun Thief at WoodFest 2012

We are really excited about showing you this highlights video from our lastest show at WoodFest 2012…

[vimeo http://www.vimeo.com/49564022 w=500&h=281]

The festival was amazing, and our show was really well received. Here are some responses from our audience…

“Lovely Message, really clearly delivered. Great puppets and props. Super performances from humans too- vocal/music”

“I think that the show gives parents great ideas on how to tell stories to their children and make them more interesting”

Ian Pease, who runs WoodFest at Hatfield Forest had this to say about the show.

“Never before have I seen both children and adults completely spellbound by a performance, it was a beautiful sight to see the faces of the children, including my own son, smiling with joy as the performance continued. The puppets are beautifully hand crafted and animated with such skill that they come to life before you and draw you into the story.

Flutterby is an experience in itself, and one which I would wholeheartedly recommend to any event or festival without hesitation and without any doubt this show will be a fixture on the festival circuit over the coming years.”

Rory and The Sun Thief well received at two brilliant festivals

Flutterby has been on the road, and has just returned from two lovely weekends of the premiere of Rory and the Sun Thief. We’ve had some lovely positive feedback from our jam-packed audiences at both Off The Tracks Festival last weekend, and WoodFest on the weekend just gone!

We’ve even had a little bit of positive press, thanks to eFestival‘s Rob Matheson, who mentioned Rory and the Sun Thief in his review of Off The Tracks:

…the excellent Flutterby Theatre performing ‘Rory And The Sun Thief’, a delightful children’s tale that has both young and old captivated.

In the meantime, take a little peek at a highlights video of what we got up to at Off The Tracks:

Summer of Sol

Superhero Puppet Film!

We’re happy to finally share the film made by the amazing and imaginative guys and girls who came along to our Superhero Puppet Making Workshop at the Bath Comic and Sci Fi Weekender on Saturday. Featuring superhero puppets all made from scratch, it’s a hilarious watch – enjoy!

The Summer of Sol at the Bath Comic and Sci-Fi Weekender

We performed our first shadow puppetry piece at the Bath Comic and Sci-Fi Weekender on the Saturday just gone! The show went down a treat, and we even had a few pictures taken -

summerofsol1

Featuring handmade puppets, screens, shadow props and scenery, and an atmospheric and ambient soundtrack – the performance takes you through the journey of a human called Summer, and her plight to help the Roman gods of old (Neptune, Jupiter and Mercury) defeat the evil force Nox, who is threatening the balance of the world by attempting to destroy the sun and cast the world into darkness.

The show took place at the Bath Comic and Sci-Fi Weekender - http://www.bathcomicandscifi.co.uk/

We are so happy that we can now have shadow puppetry added to our repertoire, and we are sure its a format that we will continue to feature into the future.

Thanks and see you soon! :)

Introducing : The Summer of Sol

Hello and welcome!

We’re happy to announce that Flutterby Theatre are performing their latest story at Bath’s Comic and Sci-Fi Weekender on Saturday the 28th September – The Summer of Sol.

The tale is our first exclusive shadow puppetry piece, and we’re really excited to show it to you!

A little excerpt…

‘Welcome to BA1, the year is 3983, the 40th century. Our tale is set in a region that has had many names over the Millenia. In the 21st century – the electronic era – it was known as Bath. Before even then, in the 1st century, it was known as Aqua Suils, at the height of the Roman empire. Today, BA1 is a popular residence for the elderly…’

The show revolves around the Forces Of The Solar System – you may have heard of them before in the form of the Old Roman Gods or the Planets. The story is about an evil force Nox, who wants to destroy the sun. Old members of The Forces: Jupiter, Neptune and Mercury, with the help of a human called Summer, go on a journey to seek out the force of the sun, Sol, bring Nox to justice and save the world!

Join us on Saturday the 28th of September to see the show at 2.15pm, and perhaps even partake in our superhero puppet making workshops (3.15pm on both the Saturday and the Sunday). The Bath Comic and Sci-Fi Weekender event is taking place at the Masonic Building on Old Orchard Street in Bath.
